That's a rule in our house.

One day at school, my friend Lucas drew his family.
He drew a mamá, a papá, a baby sister, and a cat.

He didn't look sad.
He didn't look worried.
He looked like he had been waiting for this question, and he was glad it was finally here.

"Ana is a kind, brave woman who helped carry you inside her tummy until the day you were born."

I thought about that for a moment.
"Do you know her?"
"I know her name," Papá said.
"I have a picture of her.
I've kept it safe for you.
One day, when you're bigger and if you want to, we can look at it together."
—Pero Ana no fue la única que ayudó —dijo Papá—.
Para hacer un bebé, hace falta una semillita — más chiquita que un granito de arena.

"Ana lives far away, in a country called México.
She has her own family that she loves very much.
But she wanted to help me become your papá.
So she carried you safely, for many months, until the day you were ready to meet me."

Pero quiso ayudarme a ser tu papá.

'The baby moves so much at night,' she would write.

One day, when you're bigger, I'll show them to you."

Lucas looked at the drawing for a long time.
Then he said, "Cool.
Want to play at recess?"
