One name has been changed. The woman who carried my daughter is not called Ana. She did a generous thing privately, and it should stay private.

One thing before you start. I am a dad, not a psychologist. Nothing here was reviewed by a therapist or a social worker. It is what one father worked out, mostly by getting it wrong first, and then wrote down so the next one would have something to start from.

Take the parts that sound like your family and leave the rest. You know your child; I do not. And if the conversation turns out to be bigger than a chapter — if there is real grief in it, or anger, or a question that keeps coming back — that is worth taking to someone who does this for a living. A family therapist or a counsellor is not an admission that anything went wrong. It is just a better tool than a book, for that particular job.

Una cosa antes de empezar. Soy papá, no psicólogo.
