The question under each page is the point. It is never a quiz about the story — it is about your child. Some of them get answered a week later, in the car.

Three things worth keepingTres cosas que vale la pena guardar
✎ Write down what they said. Under every question. You can add an answer to the same question again next year — the old one stays, with its date. That difference is the whole point. Everything you keep is collected on What they said.
● Record this page in your voice. One page at a time, so it can be done over several nights and redone when you stumble. On the nights you are not there — a late shift, a hospital, a handover — your child opens the book and hears you read it.
🎤 And they can answer you. Under every question there is a button that records what your child says, up to thirty seconds. It is kept with that question, on that page, and it is there the next time either of you opens the book: their answer underneath your own voice asking. Reading alone, that button is the one thing on the page addressed to them.
All of this stays on this phone. They are never uploaded, and nobody else can see them — not us, not anyone. Which also means this phone is the only copy, so both can be downloaded and kept: the answers as a text file, the recordings as a folder of audio.
⬇ Keep the book in your voice. At the end of a book you have read aloud, the download gives you the whole thing in one file: the story in both languages, the illustrations, and your voice under each page you recorded. It opens in any browser with no internet and nothing installed, so it outlives this site.
Reading to a child in another house? Send that same file to the other device and open papasstories.net/voice there. The book plays in your voice on that device too. And it goes both ways: if they answer the questions over there, the download from that device carries their answers back to you the same way. Nothing goes through us in either direction.

If this device belongs to a child rather than to you, say so and the site changes shape. The tip jar, the printing, the guide written for adults and the notebook where you keep what she said all disappear. The page turns get bigger. Anything you have recorded plays by itself and turns the page when it ends, so nobody has to find a play button nineteen times.
The question on each page stays, because the question is the book — it just starts saying Papá asks instead of ask him or her, and waits a few seconds before moving on so there is time to think about it.
And under it, one large button: Tell Papá. She answers out loud, the book waits as long as she is talking, and what she said is there on that page the next time you open it. She is given no way to delete it, which is the point — an answer in a small voice cannot be recorded again next year.

Worth doing for two reasons, and the second one matters more than it sounds.
It opens like an app, and every book you have already read works with no signal at all — which is useful, because bedrooms are where wifi goes to die.
And on an iPhone, Safari deletes a website's saved data after about a week of not visiting it. That would take your recordings and your notes with it. Adding the site to your home screen stops that.
