I wrote the book I couldn't findEscribí el libro que no pude encontrar

When I found out I was going to be a single dad through surrogacy, I looked for a children's book that could explain to my daughter — simply, warmly — where she came from and why our family looks the way it does.

I couldn't find one. Not in English. Not in Spanish. Not one that felt like us.

So I wrote one. And then I thought — there must be other dads out there, lying awake at night, wondering how to tell their kid the most beautiful story they'll ever hear: how much you were wanted.

That's what Papá's Stories is. Every book here is bilingual, illustrated, and written by a real dad for a real child. Some are bedtime lullabies. Some are funny. Some will make you cry. All of them say the same thing in different ways: you were worth the wait.

If you're a dad who built his family a little differently — through surrogacy, adoption, as a solo parent, with a partner, with help from the whole village — these stories are for you. And for the child who will one day ask you where they came from.

What we believe

Every family is real

There's no “normal.” There's just love, showing up every day, in whatever shape it takes.

Stories shape us

The story your child hears about where they came from becomes part of who they are. It should sound like love.

Bilingual is beautiful

Every book exists in English and Spanish because language is identity, and our kids deserve both.

Dads matter

Fatherhood doesn't need a mother to be complete. A dad who wished hard enough is more than enough.

A question on every page

The question is the part that matters. A story read at a child is a performance. A question turns it into a conversation, and the conversation is where you find out what kind of day they actually had.

None of them are quizzes. What colour was the door? tells you nothing. Has anyone ever asked you something you didn't know how to answer? tells you everything — sometimes that night, sometimes a week later, in the car.

On the tender pages the child is given permission not to answer. That is deliberate too.

A note for Papá

Some pages carry a short note for the adult reading. It stays folded away behind a tap, because the child is usually looking at the same screen, and a note about how to handle a hard question should not be sitting there in the middle of the story.

And when the question is bigger than a note — Before She Asks is the whole book on telling a child where they came from. Free, in both languages.

Reading in two languages

EN, ES or Both, at the top of every page. Read one, the other, or both together — the child hears the second language without anyone making an occasion of it.

Free, and no account

Nothing here is locked, nothing is sold, there are no ads and there is nothing you have to sign up for. Add it to your home screen and the books you have opened keep working with no signal at all.

If you write down what your child said, or record a page in your own voice, that stays on your phone. It is never uploaded, we never see it, and there is no account it could be attached to. You can download both and keep them.

It does cost something to keep up — the domain, the hosting, the pictures. That comes out of my pocket, and that is fine. If you ever feel like putting something towards it, , and I would be glad. But nothing here unlocks, no book gets better, and giving nothing is the normal thing to do.

Who wrote these, and who didn't

A dad wrote these. Not a psychologist, not a therapist, not a child development expert — just someone who needed a book that did not exist, made one, and figured he may as well leave the door open on the way out.

So read one first if you would like to know what is in it. They are free and they open in about four taps, and you know your own child far better than a stranger on the internet does. If a story is not right for yours, that is a perfectly good answer — there is a whole shelf of others.

And if something in your family is bigger than a bedtime story can hold, it probably is. That is not a failure of the book or of you; some things want a real person in the room. A family therapist, a counsellor, your doctor — the people who do this for a living are worth every penny, and asking early is not an overreaction.

And if they are useful, pass them to another dad. That is the whole distribution plan.

Algunos te van a hacer llorar.

Debería sonar a amor.

Y si te sirven, pásaselos a otro papá. Ese es todo el plan de difusión.
